8 Week Marathon Training Plan

1 Nov

Alright.  Now that I’ve come clean with my intentions to run CIM, I figured I should share my plan.  I looked at Hal Higdon’s multiple marathoning plans and consulted Pfitzinger’s Advanced Marathoning; even though Pfitz’s 8-week plan looked a little intense, I decided I should go for it.  I modified it somewhat to fit in some races and other travel plans between now and December. I am also using it as a guideline – it peaks at 60+ miles which would be a huge weekly mileage PR for me, but if my body is not playing along, I will cut back. That being said, I know having a couple big mileage weeks would instill a lot of mental confidence for the race. So, we’ll just have to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Overall, I think this is a really solid plan to capitalize on marathon fitness and do an 8 week turnaround to another marathon. If I was perfectly healthy right now, I’d feel quite confident about a BQ or PR off of this plan – but as I said previously, I know my body isn’t 100% so I will adjust expectations accordingly. I am still excited to lay down some solid miles, good workouts, and get back into the swing of long runs.
