Wineglass Training Catch-Up

27 Sep

In a move that is quickly becoming my signature, I stopped blogging my weekly workouts as soon as shit started getting bad.  Poor form, I know – one of the main reasons I enjoy reading running blogs is to hear how other people are training and how well they’re doing with it.

I don’t want to keep secrets, so I figured I would do a quick recap of the weeks leading up to this glorious yet terrifying taper.

We last left off with my craptastic week of training in Week 10.  You can read more about that here.  At least you can until I decide to delete it and pretend it never happened (kidding, kind of).

Week 11:            48 miles total, LR: 18

Best of the Week
Long run with Laura!!  And then hanging out by the lake with a beer after.  Perfect day.

Worst of the Week
Monday’s run, coming back after my awful week, was both mentally and physically tough.  And slow.  Very, very slow.

Week 12:            45 miles total, LR: 18

Best of the Week
I did a 10 mile mid-week run and it was glorious.  Felt like I could run forever.

Worst of the Week
Tie between getting semi-attacked by a pack of 5 dogs, and experiencing an awful pain in my right quad when I tried to run the day after my long run.

Week 13:            37 miles total, LR: 17

Best of the Week
Spectating the Green Lakes Endurance 50k and 100k racers during my long run.  So much fun!

Worst of the Week
Slowest long run pace of the training cycle.  My quad was still really sore, and tackling the hills at Green Lakes was probably not the smartest idea.

Week 14:            26 miles total, LR: 13

Best of the Week
Going to Virginia Beach to run with Hollie and Laura!

Worst of the Week
Going to Virginia Beach and running my worst half marathon ever!

Week 15:            42 miles total, LR: 20

Best of the Week
Finally getting over my quad pain and running a solid half marathon after a 7 mile warmup.

Worst of the Week
None.  This week was absolutely perfect.

Week 16:            51 miles total, LR: 21

Best of the Week
Longest long run and it felt smooth and easy.  Had a great time out on the trails with friends.

Worst of the Week
None.  Another great week.

Week 17:            40 miles total, LR: 10

Best of the Week
Running on trails in Alabama!  Seeing a rattlesnake, and a deer, and NATURE!

Worst of the Week
Quad pain returning during my long run.  Cut it short, and decided we’ll call this an early start on taper.

So there you have it.  In case you haven’t noticed the trend, I seem to have two really strong weeks of training followed by a bust card.  The upside is that if that trend holds, I should be all set for the marathon.

For now, all I can do is taper hard, trust my training, and mentally get ready to kick some ass on October 6th.

I hope the bagels fuel you for a good week this week. Ha. I’m glad everything seems to go smoothly and I wish I could be there to support you so badly. (next year). You will rock it. I hope your quad feels better. My quad hurt like the dickens, along with my knee and after my deep tissue massage it went away in a few days.

We will have an epic reunion at NYCM, and there will be many more races in our future. We can support each other at Lake Effect, and by that I mean we can complain about the weather while drinking a beer at Empire Brewing!

At least you’ve got good mileage going for you, and all of your long runs completed! Better to get the crappy things out of the way now! Enjoy your taper, I’m sure you’ll do great at WG!

You are going to kill Wineglass- this entire year has been setting yourself up for an awesome race this coming weekend… I just know it. I’m pumped to hug you when I see you on Sunday, and Ill probably cry before the start–be warned now.

My training weeks tend to do similar cycles…extreme highs and craptastic lows… god forbid a few good weeks in a row happen- but good thing is– shit’s gonna rock on sunday….even in the rain.

I think we are probably going to be the biggest neurotic messes on Sunday morning, I am predicting that right now. That said, I absolutely believe we are both going to have great races and I can’t wait to celebrate with you at the finish!
